"Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path." ~Psalm 119:105
We recently moved to the country, and one morning last week I headed out early to the gym. As I pulled out of our lane, an ominous veil enveloped my car and my vision ~ Fog. Frustration soon led to resignation. I was in a hurry to get to my destination. I had not allotted any extra time for my commute. I had not listened to the morning news or consulted the weather app on my phone. My resignation eventually led to acceptance as I realized I would be a few minutes late to my class.
It struck me as I drove that many of our problems in life are similar to traveling through fog. When we experience a trial ~ whether it is a financial setback, a crumbling relationship, or a health challenge, we can become frustrated, anxious, sad, and sometimes stuck. What can we do? We can share our hurt with a close friend ~ trading our veil of pride for transparent, honest vulnerability. We can read God’s Word and be still in our pain. We can pray, and openly lament to God about our anger, our fear, our disillusionment with our life situation. If we are stuck in a pit and need an objective ear and a helpful hand to grasp ours, we can seek counseling.
The closer I got to the gym that morning the fog began to slowly lift and I was able to see more than just a few feet in front of my car. It occurred to me that God often provides just the necessary amount of light for His people to put one foot in front of the other as we journey through life. He will never abandon, forget, or look away from us in our hurt. He brings light, clarity, and Hope.
