“Pink… You’ll either love it or hate it; it’s a choice.” ~ Dr. Brenda
The month of July has lots of layers for me. It’s officially summer, we celebrate the Fourth of July, and it’s my cancerversary. I can hardly believe it’s been 11 years since I was diagnosed, had surgery, and began endocrine therapy. In some ways it feels like a lifetime ago and in other ways it feels like just yesterday. I think July 3, 2013 is far enough in my rear view mirror to pause and reflect on what I learned about cancer, life, and myself. While my cancer journey is not one I’d ever like to repeat, I do believe there are some really good things that came from my experience. So, here goes….
11 Lessons Cancer Taught Me:
- I found out just how tenderly my husband loves me.
- Family and friends can show up for me in so many ways.
- Cancer, just like Life, is not always black and white. It is very gray in terms of answers and guarantees.
- Prayer is a conversation ~ not a monologue.
- It is amazing how brave we really are.
- We can pivot in life.
- We’re never too old to pursue a new chapter, a new career, a new ministry.
- Medicine is more an art than a science.
- Time is precious ~ letting go of things that no longer matter is freeing.
- Trust and Hope are siblings.
- Jesus always has my back.
